Does anyone remember the first Star Trek Beyond trailer, other than the internet’s general consensus that it wasn’t great?
It’s been unusually quiet on the marketing front for the new film, which is set to open this summer. Luckily today we got something to grasp onto and discuss in anticipation of the next trailer.

Everything looks awfully dour, which is something I definitely don’t look for in my Star Trek media. And it’s exactly the thing I want to avoid after Into Darkness.
I still really like J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek film, and this cast, so I’d just like to see them be able to have some fun again.
With director Justin Lin at the helm, that seems like a given, but these photos say otherwise, and so do the photos of Lin himself, oddly enough.
Granted, these photos only represent the tiniest fraction of the film (in still-form, no less), but I hope they don’t indicate an overall dark tone to the film.
One thing’s for sure: the crew isn’t on the USS Enterprise in these pictures.
Star Trek Beyond, directed by Justin Lin and starring Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba, and Sofia Boutella, is set to arrive on July 22, 2016.
