Official Character Photos for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Released

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them isn’t the only new Harry Potter we’re getting this year.

Author J.K. Rowling’s sequel play, titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, will open on July 30 in London’s West End, with previews beginning on June 7.

If you just can’t wait, or, if you’re like me and won’t be making it to London on time, official cast photos of the Potters have been released. Get ready to meet Harry and Ginny Potter, and their son Albus Severus.

Jamie Parker, who we learned would be playing Harry in December, definitely looks the part. And seeing that scar again gives me chills. Rowling says about Parker: “He simply is Harry now. There’s a kind of relief in watching him, he gets it so right.”

Poppy Miller plays the fiery Ginny Potter, on whom Rowling comments: “I think a lot of people would like to have Poppy’s Ginny for a mother. Kind and cool, exactly as I imagined her.” I’m sold!

Finally, Sam Clemmett plays the young Albus Severus Potter. Rowling believes they “could not have cast better,” but couldn’t say more for fear of getting into spoilers.

Here’s a synopsis of the play:

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Ron and Hermione will also be in the play, but any other characters haven’t been revealed yet (if there are any).

A book version of the script will be released on July 31, with a collector’s edition being released later this year.
