Meet the Newest Pokémon Starters in First Trailers for Sun and Moon

The next two Pokémon games, Sun and Moon, were revealed a couple of months ago, and now we have our first look at the gameplay, as well as the brand new starters.

Set to arrive later this year, this is the most we’ve seen of these games yet and it’s very exciting.

So get ready to meet Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio in the franchise’s newest region, Alola, which seems to be modeled after Hawaii:

Gameplay is pretty much the same as in most other Pokémon games because, well, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. These games are reliable, fun, and still able to be new and that’s all we really need.

The three new starters consist of Rowlet, a grass and flying Pokémon who can move silently and turn its head nearly 180-degrees; Litten, a cat-like fire Pokémon who uses hairballs as attacks and is always coolheaded; and Popplion, a sea lion-esque creature and water Pokémon, whose speed in the water can exceed 25 mph.

The tropical setting of the game is explored even more in a live-action based trailer that is sure to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside:

Okay, okay, I’m just a sucker for human connection stories and a little boy from Japan moving and making new friends through shared interests like Pokémon? Me and my barely concealed tear ducts are so there.

The games, exclusive to the 3DS, are set to come out later this year.

What do you think of the gameplay and new region? Which starter do you think you’ll choose? Let us know in the comments!
