Power Rangers Reboot Officially Casts Red and Black Rangers

Last time we talked about the Power Rangers movie, Naomi Scott was officially cast as the Pink Ranger.

Now, two more join the team.

First up is Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger:

He only has a short and a TV movie to his name, so Lionsgate/Saban are really going with unknowns for the film, which may or may not be a good thing depending on how you look at it.

In the original television series, the Red Ranger was Jason Lee Scott and leader of the team.

Next up is Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger:

Zack Taylor was the Black Ranger in the original series, a character who was upbeat and loved pranks and dancing. He was also Jason’s second-in-command.

Lin has the same sort of resume that Montgomery has (shorts and a TV movie) which continues the theme of casting unknowns. Curiously, neither of them were on the original short-list for these characters, the way Naomi Scott was.

The characters’ names haven’t been revealed yet, which gives some weight to the theory that this might not be a reboot at all, but a continuation or an entirely new story.

Power Rangers, directed by Dean Israelite, is set to debut on January 13, 2017.
