The Rock Confirms That Black Adam Is Getting a Solo Movie

All the way back in September of 2014 it was announced that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had been cast as Black Adam for the DC Extended Universe. We all assumed at that point he would make his first appearance in the Shazam film, tentatively set for an April 5, 2019 release. However, today we learned that Black Adam will get his own solo film.

Black Adam has been a villain and an anti-hero in the comics, and has even had his own comic, so it’s not much of a stretch to see him start as a good guy or reluctant rogue in the DCEU. Rumor has it the original plan for Shazam was to not have Black Adam as the main villain, but to have him potentially appear later in the film as a set-up for future films. His character has a similar power set to those of Shazam – with flight, strength, lightning manipulation, and all of those powers centered on magic.

Recently, Johnson posted a picture on Instagram of himself and Henry Cavill with the caption “DC Worlds Will Collide.” We’ll have to wait and see what that exactly means – if it’s more than just a casual meet up.

Last week, Johnson met with DC Films co-chief Geoff Johns to discuss the future of the universe and his place in their storylines and he expressed how excited he was coming out of that meeting and that fellow DC fans should share his enthusiasm.

Johnson is a huge name for the studio and they want to make sure they can cash in on his box office presence early and often. I would not be shocked to see him appear sooner than his own solo film or even the Shazam movie – maybe a cameo in Justice League?

Are you guys excited at the prospect of a solo film led by the Rock? How do you feel about Johnson’s eagerness to portray the anti-hero/villain? Let’s talk about it in the comments below!
