Sesame Street Solves Westeros’ Political Problems with a Game of Musical Chairs

What do you get when you cross one of the most endearing children’s shows with HBO’s explicit medieval franchise? A rather funny tongue-in-cheek video of musical chairs.

Sesame Street posted a video to their YouTube channel parodying Game of Thrones. It’s hilarious, clever, and extremely bizarre when you sit down to think about the two shows meeting in this parody. You can watch the video below.

Titled “Game of Chairs,” this video parodies the show’s politics of various characters fighting for the Iron Throne. In this version, Jesteros needs a new queen or king and in order to appoint one, Ned Stark has created a new game. Grover Bluejoy appears to help explain the rules (although not very well) of a traditional game of musical chairs.

The competitors are Daenerys Targaryen, Robb Stark, Joffrey Baratheon, and Cersei Lannister.

The script is very clever, which is perhaps the most enjoyable element. Grover refers to Daenerys as a “mommy of dragons” while Robb ushers everyone to hurry up because he has a wedding to get to. If only he had really been late to his wedding because of a game of musical chairs.

Daenerys is out first, followed by Joffrey, who “choked” in his round. There are many more references in the video, but I won’t spoil all of them.

The video is a parody to help teach counting, as well as provide amusement for fans of Game of Thrones. I know I was certainly amused, if also a little (read: very) freaked out too.

What do you think of Sesame Street’s parody? If the Sesame Street characters were in Westeros, who do you think would end up on the Iron Throne? Share your thoughts in the comments!
