First Star Trek Beyond Trailer Really Wants You to Forget All About Into Darkness

This morning, the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond leaked and then promptly officially released by Paramount.

The first thought I had while watching this trailer was: “Wow, they’re trying really hard to make us forget about Into Darkness… excellent move.”

After the travesty and mess of Into Darkness, I’m so glad this trailer seems to have the exact opposite approach. Check it out!

This trailer is pretty much non-stop action and fun quips (probably thanks to Simon Pegg helping out on the script), all set to the Beastie Boys’ song they used in the 2009 film. Which only further implies they’re doing their best to make it seem like this is the second reboot film and Into Darkness doesn’t exist anymore.

For once, it finally looks like this film will take place on a planet other than Earth! The Enterprise is destroyed, the crew is separated, and they have to navigate an alien planet, and Idris Elba as the main villain of the film, to survive.

This is the Trek I’m here for, especially when Karl Urban as Bones exists.

So go back and watch the truly great 2009 film, skip Into Darkness entirely, and get ready for this new film.

Star Trek Beyond, directed by Justin Lin and starring Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba, and Sofia Boutella, is set to arrive on July 22, 2016.

What do you think of this trailer? Do you like the approach they’re taking?
