Enter the World of Star Wars: The Force Awakens with Behind the Scenes Photos

Star Wars Episode 7 Behind the Scenes

If you haven’t yet watched the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, go do that now. I’ll wait.

finn-on-set-2Are you back yet? Perfect. Now that you’ve gotten another taste of the upcoming Episode 7, take a look at some epic behind-the-scenes images.

With new characters, beloved original characters, and even director J.J. Abrams himself in these shots, you can surely whet your appetite for a galaxy far, far away!

One of the most interesting things about these photographs is just how much the invoke the feel of the original trilogy.

Abrams himself stated the importance of practical sets and effects:

“When we were working on pre-production, the thing that struck me is just how real you knew and felt Star Wars was when you first saw A New Hope. That feeling of actually being [there] — whether they were shooting in Tunisia or various physical sets — you couldn’t deny it. . . We needed to set a standard that was real, where you knew those people were in those places.”

These “real tangible John Ford landscapes” (as Abrams called them) definitely bring in the rich environments present in the original trilogy. And with practical effects for droids, the spinning BB-8 is just about the cutest thing since R2-D2!

In addition to these behind-the-scenes photos, the lead actors from the new film each described their characters at the Star Wars Celebration opening panel.

Daisy Ridley (Rey):

“She is a scavenger in a ship graveyard. She is very solitary until she meets another character, and an adventure begins.”

John Boyega (Finn the Stormtrooper):

“He’s in incredible danger, and the way he reacts changes his life, number one, and launches him into the Star Wars universe in a very unique way.”

Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron):

“He’s the best frickin’ pilot in the galaxy, that’s who he is. He’s been sent on mission by certain princess. He ends up coming across John Boyega’s character and their fates are forever intertwined.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, and Gwendoline Christie, is set to come out on December 18, 2015.
