Here Are the Actors Lucasfilm Is Considering for Young Han Solo Film

Remember that time Lucasfilm is doing a Han Solo spinoff film? And that they’ve seen over 2500 auditions for our favorite scoundrel?

Well, now Variety has released a potential shortlist of actors for the role.

Set to be the second Star Wars spinoff film (after this year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), this film will focus on a young (think low to mid-twenties) Han Solo and his adventures.

Sources say these following actors have made the shortlist: Miles Teller (Whiplash), Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Scott Eastwood (The Longest Ride), Logan Lerman (Perks of Being a Wallflower), Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), and Blake Jenner (Glee).

Having seen Brooklyn somewhat recently, my attention immediately went to Emory Cohen’s name on this list. He was magnetic in that film, and definitely an actor I want to see more of.

More than anything else, however, this movie needs to focus on not mimicking Harrison Ford. Han Solo isn’t an untouchable character, and there are interesting things to be done with him. What this movie, and whichever actor lands the role, needs to do is be true to Han Solo the character, not what they think Harrison Ford would have done with the role had the character been in his mid-twenties.

Sure, study Ford’s mannerisms when he played Han Solo and things like that, but remember this Han Solo will be different and should be an original take by whoever gets cast.

The sooner you take Han Solo off the pedestal for this film, the better. (And I say that as a fan who adores Han Solo.)

The film is slated for a May 25, 2018 release with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directing. Lawrence and Jon Kasdan are writing the script.

What do you think of this shortlist? Who do you want to see play Han Solo? Let us know in the comments!
