Star Wars Hero Poe Dameron to Receive Ongoing Comic, Check Out the First Cover

Poe Dameron, despite his comparatively small screen time, has become a standout and fan-favorite character from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Heck, I had been pegging him as becoming one of my favorite characters before the film came out, and then, luckily, it turned out to be true.

It is sometimes frustrating as a Poe Dameron fan, though, because he wasn’t in a whole lot of the film. We know some stuff about who he is and where he came from, thanks to canon books and comics where we meet his parents, although it’s not much.

But that’s all about to change.

According to USA Today, Poe is receiving his own ongoing comic from Marvel starting in April. It’ll be written by Charles Soule (Star Wars: Lando) and drawn by Phil Noto (Star Wars: Chewbacca, Black Widow).

Yes, you read that right. Poe Dameron. Ongoing comic. Phil Noto!

Noto is one of my favorite comic artists and I’m elated to see him taking on one of my new favorite characters. He says: “I’ve seen people on Twitter and Instagram looking for Poe Dameron in the comics. Now the pressure’s on us to deliver.”

I certainly hope so and from the sound of things, they will. The comic will reportedly focus on Poe as top Resistance X-Wing pilot and the lead-up to the important mission we saw him on at the beginning of TFA. BB-8 will co-star, and other X-Wing pilots will make appearances (fingers crossed for Jess Pava).

Plus, there will be a new villain according to Soule:

“Sometimes it can feel like the Star Wars universe is so well trodden and so many stories have already been told. But the way the Episode VII galaxy is set up, there are opportunities for new archetypes almost, and the bad guy we’re working with is going to feel fresh and cool.”

Intriguing.

Soule likens the comic to the Mission: Impossible franchise, and Noto says he’s watching actor Oscar Isaac’s filmography to draw Poe. I say we’re in for one exciting ride and I cannot wait.

Star Wars: Poe Dameron will debut in April from Marvel Comics.
