What’s the last thing to go through an Imperial scout trooper’s head when he hits a tree? His afterburner.
There’s nothing quite as magical as seeing our favorite galactic creations take flight, but what about seeing that Star Wars The Black Series Scout Trooper 6-Inch Action Figure with Speeder Bike Vehicle in air?
The 74-Z Speeder Bike, also known as the Imperial Speeder Bike, is most iconic during the chase scene on the Forest Moon of Endor during Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, where Imperial Scout Troopers chased Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa.
Now Adam Woodworth brings the Speeder Bike to multi-rotor racing: “The fast, low level flying instantly reminded me of the Endor chase scene from Return of the Jedi. This project was an obvious choice to combine my interest and experience in RC (remote control) flight with my love of Star Wars stuff.”
Check out this epic piece in flight in the videos below and see the gallery at the bottom for a variety of test shots!
Woodworth used a 1:6 scale Hasbro Power Of The Force series Speeder Bike from 1999 as the base for the flying Speeder Bike. Utilizing computer-aided design (CAD), he was able to experiment with different rotor layouts to create the best quadrocopter-plus-frame possible.
He even created a new body for the Scout Trooper, comprised of pipe cleaners and Nerf darts, to cut down the weight of the figure. For an even cooler combination, the helmet can be swapped for a first-person video camera mounted to a styrofoam ball.
We just hope that Woodworth’s plan to “build a version of the Imperial Speeder Bikes from the movie that [he] could “get into” and fly around [himself]” comes to fruition, because we can’t wait to see that!
