The new Star Wars Rebels trailer captivated audiences at San Diego Comic-Con this year. With Episode VII still in production, the J.J. Abrams film stepped aside this Comic-Con to give Star Wars fans a treat in the form of an extended trailer for an all-new animated series, which is set in the fantasy world of Star Wars and explores more complex stories within the fantastical sci-fi universe.
Set between the events of 2005’s Revenge of the Sith and 1977’s A New Hope, the series focuses on a ragtag band of characters, the “rebels”, who organize a resistance against the Empire. The trailer focuses on character Ezra Bridger, who falls in with a diverse team of characters, including Jedi-in-disguise Kanan Jarrus and Mandalorian Sabine. But those are not the only faces to appear in the series! Also making an appearance in the trailer is Obi-Wan Kenobi. The timeline, set closer to the 1977 original than the recent The Clone Wars (set between the Prequel Episodes 2 & 3), allows for familiar characters to pop up during the show’s run.
The show will feature high profile voice actors, such as Steve Blum, Taylor Gray, Tiya Sircar, and Vanessa Marshall.
The 1-hour pilot is not set to air until later this year. Until then, fans can look forward to a kid-friendly animated series that is fresh and vibrant with the innate feel of the original trilogy.
