According to The Hollywood Reporter, J.J. Abrams’ foray into a galaxy far, far away has already made $50 million in advance ticket sales. And that’s North America alone!
The previous record was held by The Dark Knight Rises with $25 million in 2012.
The film isn’t sold out yet, so that $50 million could rise by the time it opens. The Force Awakens is comfortably situated to shatter the low box office pattern of holiday season movies.
It’s already broken records, too. Previously, IMAX tickets had never sold more than $1 million a day in presale tickets. The Force Awakens sold $6.5 million in 12 hours.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, and Max von Sydow is set to come out on December 18, 2015.
How much do you think this film will make opening weekend – its predicted $225 million or even more? Let us know in the comments!
