May the 4th Be with You to Contain Your Excitement Over New Star Wars Photos

The Force is strong with Vanity Fair. They went behind the scenes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens with photographer Annie Leibovitz to bring us new details about the film.

Not only do we get stunning photos, but answers to questions we’ve been dying to know since the first trailer. Most of the film is still shrouded in mystery, however, which is probably a good thing.

So let’s get right into it!

As we speculated after the first trailer, it’s confirmed that Adam Driver is playing Kylo Ren, the broadsword lightsaber wielding Sith. The photo reveals him sans helmet with two Snowtroopers behind him.

Light was also shed on Gwendoline Christie and Lupita Nyong’o. Christie is playing Captain Phasma, the Chrometrooper we saw in the second trailer. As for Nyong’o, she will play a pirate named Maz Kanata.

Based on the photo to the right, we know Maz Kanata will be a motion capture character. She is a big-shot among rogues, given she has a castle which you can see rogues gathered in below. However, we don’t know if she falls on the side of the Resistance or First Order i.e. Rebellion or Empire.

Familiar faces also popped up, like Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, posing by his X-Wing, as well Rey on her speeder, played by Daisy Ridley.

The two names who haven’t been mentioned at all are Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow but there will be one more big character reveal in the June issue of Vanity Fair.

In this issue, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy described director J.J. Abrams’ enthusiasm for the film like turning “back into an 11 year old boy” and I think we can all relate to that excitement right now.

Even Harrison Ford!

Abrams, about the star who plays lovable scoundrel Han Solo, said Ford “was excited to get back in those shoes again, which was really interesting because I thought he hadn’t been a fan. I kept hearing those rumors when I was a kid.”

Raise your hand if you’re emotional.

The issue comes out digitally on May 7th and hits national newsstands on May 12th.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, and Gwendoline Christie, is set to come out on December 18, 2015.

What do you think of the character reveals? Who do you think Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow will be playing? Let us know in the comments!
