Star Wars: IX’s Title is The Rise of Skywalker

Today, Lucasfilm revealed the first teaser trailer and official title for Episode: IX for fans at Star Wars Celebration. The title for the conclusion of Skywalker Saga is fitting – Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Could it mean the rise of Luke, or Leia, or Skywalker legacy, or even Rey (who has been speculated to be a Skywalker even before The Force Awakens came out), or could it be the redemption of Kylo Ren? We will have to wait until December 20, 2019, to find out.

What fans don’t have to wait for is the first teaser trailer, which JJ Abrams introduced at the Episode: IX panel. The trailer features Mark Hamill’s voice, telling Rey, “This is your fight.” We see Rey igniting the mended Skywalker lightsaber (it sputters a little, like Kylo Ren’s laser sword) as she faces down Kylo Ren in his TIE fighter. Then, there are fast cuts showing off various characters including the returning Lando Calrissian. The trailer ends with ominous laughter and the title reveal. But as soon as the trailer presentation ended and the lights came up, Emperor Palpatine himself – Ian McDiarmid was on stage, declaring, “Roll it again.”
