Well, the time is now and the casting is official, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The casting line-up for Suicide Squad includes Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevinge, with David Ayer as writer-director. Smith will take the helm as Deadshot, with Hardy playing the group’s leader, Rick Flagg. The rumors are confirmed that Jared Leto is the Joker, with Robbie as femme fatale Harley Quinn. Villains-turned-heroes Captain Boomerang and Enchantress will be played by Courtney and Delevinge, respectively. The DC Comics series follows a group of convicts who run government missions, with this particular character line-up coming from the 1980s comic book.
“David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites,” said Greg Silverman, president for Warner Bros.’ Creative Development and Worldwide Production, in the announcement. “We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5, 2016 and has been described by writer-director David Ayer as “The Dirty Dozen with supervillains.” Filming begins in April 2015.
