Goodbye Natalie Portman, hello Tessa Thompson.
It’s official: Natalie Portman will not be returning for Thor: Ragnarok. Accompanying that news is the casting of Creed’s Tessa Thompson in the film. Deadline claims her character “will be a kind of superhero and will appear in other Marvel films as well.”
There’s no confirmation who this superhero is, or what her relation to Thor is, but I’m pulling for Valkyrie.
And though I realize many people will disagree with me here, I’m disappointed this comes right after the confirmation that Portman won’t appear in this film; I’m rather fond of Jane Foster.
Whatever the details are for Ragnarok, it will be an important event for Thor, especially leading up to Infinity War.
The Russo Brothers recently confirmed to ComicBook.com that they’re excited to work with Thor, and Joe elaborated: “They’re doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he’s gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he’s gonna have a real emotional motivation after that.”
Could this mean Thompson’s character might also show up in Infinity War?
Maybe, but Thor for sure won’t be the only galactic Marvel hero taking part in Infinity War, Anthony confirmed: “The movies are intended to be a culmination of everything that’s happened before in the MCU so you don’t want to get into spoilers but [Joe and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done. Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you’d be very excited.”
Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, and Cate Blanchett (who has since been confirmed), is set to hit theaters on November 3, 2017.
Avengers: Infinity War – Part I, directed by the Russo Brothers, is set to arrive on May 4, 2018.
Who do you think Tessa Thompson is playing? Are you excited Thor and the Guardians will be in Infinity War?
