There’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Expanded Universe, the reinvigorated Star Wars universe, and now Universal is working on getting their horror reboot shared universe off the ground.
Yup, it’s exactly what you think it is. Dracula, the Mummy, the Wolfman, Frankenstein, all your favorite classic monsters sharing one cinematic universe.
This universe is set to kick off with a modern-day reboot of The Mummy next year. If it’s anywhere near as good as the 1999 Mummy with Brendan Fraser, we’re in for a treat because that movie is a gem and still holds up very well today.
Now their second reboot in the universe, Van Helsing, set to come out in 2017, is getting movement.
Variety reports that Jon Spaihts and Eric Heisserer have signed on to co-write the script about the monster hunter.
Spaihts is also writing The Mummy and Marvel’s Doctor Strange while Heisserer penned The Thing and Nightmare on Elm Street reboots in the past.
No other details about the film are known. Van Helsing first appeared in Bram Stoker’s Dracula and then became a more versatile monster hunter when Hugh Jackman played him in the 2004 film.
Are you excited for this new cinematic universe? What other monsters do you hope they reboot? Sound off in the comments!
