The highly anticipated trailer for Warcraft, Duncan Jones’ take on adapting the popular game World of Warcraft for the big screen, has finally arrived! Watch it below!
The first thing that sprung to mind when I watched this trailer was “epic.” It truly is a sight to behold. What will make or break the film will be whether or not the story and character depth can hold up the action, rather than lacking and making the film seem hollow.
There’s plenty of potential, however.
The plot of the film is relatively simply, but sometimes those are the best kinds for a film like this. The world in question, Azeroth, is thrown into chaos when orcs, led by Durotan (Toby Kebbell), flee their dying world and go up against the humans who rule Azeroth. The humans are led by Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel). The main question the film raises is whether these two species can unite or if they’ll end up utterly destroying one another.
The film looks expensive and like it came straight from the graphics of the game, which is impressive. The big challenge for the film will be marketing itself to people who have never played WoW and making it accessible to the masses.
Jones, who directed the fantastic sci-fi thriller Moon, definitely has the chops to enrich this film so it will be interesting to see the final product.
Warcraft stars Travis Fimmel, Toby Kebbell, Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Dominic Cooper, Clancy Brown, and Robert Kazinsky. It’s set to hit theaters on June 10, 2016.
