{"id":12346,"date":"2015-01-08T17:27:37","date_gmt":"2015-01-08T17:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=12346"},"modified":"2023-01-23T14:32:09","modified_gmt":"2023-01-23T22:32:09","slug":"viola-davis-confirmed-as-amanda-waller-in-suicide-squad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/viola-davis-confirmed-as-amanda-waller-in-suicide-squad\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the Powerful Leader of the Suicide Squad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been rumored for quite some time that <strong>Viola Davis<\/strong> would be playing the role of <strong>Amanda Waller<\/strong> in the upcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/2014\/12\/03\/suicide-squad-cast-announced\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Suicide Squad<\/strong><\/em><\/a> film, but now it looks like the actress herself has confirmed it.<\/p>\n<p>When doing press for her new movie <em>Blackhat<\/em>, she was asked about the supervillain film, based on a team who act as deniable assets for the United States government. In response to whether or not she&#8217;s started reading the comic books: &#8220;I have not started reading them yet. I\u2019ve read up about her but I\u2019m working out my schedule for <em>Suicide Squad<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Davis seems eager about the role:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I\u2019m fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She\u2019s this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I\u2019m fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I\u2019m excited to pick up a gun.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These quotes definitely sound like confirmation, though the studio hasn&#8217;t spoken out about it yet.<\/p>\n<p>In the comics, Waller, often nicknamed &#8220;The Wall&#8221;, is the government liaison in charge of the Suicide Squad. She has no superpowers but that doesn&#8217;t stop her from persistently being a powerful antagonist.<\/p>\n<p>Based on Davis&#8217; past work, and especially her recent work on <em>How to Get Away with Murder<\/em>, we think she&#8217;ll make a strong and memorable Amanda Waller. Not to mention her passion for the character is already promising.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;ll be joining Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtey as playing Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.<\/p>\n<p><em>Suicide Squad<\/em>, directed by David Ayer, is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Do you like this casting?
