It&#8217;s official: after 13 years, <b><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/hitlist.asp?theme=X-Files&amp;id=EN-407186506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The X-Files<\/a><\/i><\/b> is returning as a 6-episode series.<\/p>\n<p>The return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon was announced in a press release by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group and Chris Carter, creator and executive producer of <i>The X-Files<\/i>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of <em>The X-Files<\/em> \u2014 one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers \u2013 and we couldn\u2019t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again. <em>The X-Files<\/em> was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture \u2014 yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as <em>The X-Files,<\/em> and we\u2019re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they\u2019ve been waiting for.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The thrilling 6-episode series will mark the return of <strong>Gillian Anderson<\/strong> and <strong>David Duchovny<\/strong> as FBI Agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, respectively, and creator Chris Carter. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/2015\/01\/23\/the-x-files-reboot-is-probably-happening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Duchovny stated his interest in re-inhabiting Fox Mulder just a few months ago<\/a>, so it&#8217;s exciting to see this coming together!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think of it as a 13-year commercial break,\u201d said Carter. \u201cThe good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Filming is set to begin this summer, but there&#8217;s no reason we can&#8217;t start getting excited!
