Boeing has patented technology that sounds like it came straight out of a galaxy far, far away.<\/p>\n<p>In science-fiction, force fields can be used as protection devices and that&#8217;s just what Boeing has created. Named the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/patft.uspto.gov\/netacgi\/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;d=PALL&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;s1=8981261.PN.&amp;OS=PN\/8981261&amp;RS=PN\/8981261\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">Method and system for shockwave attenuation via electromagnetic arc<\/a>&#8220;, this technology will use energy to deflect potential damage.<\/p>\n<p>While it won&#8217;t be able to prevent direct impact, it will protect targets from damaging effects of shockwaves. You can watch a video below that explains this further.<\/p>\n<p>Theoretically, a sensor will detect an explosion and send a message to an arc generator that will then produce a plasma field, using lasers, electricity and microwaves, between the target and shockwave.<\/p>\n<p>The plasma field cannot be held for any period of time but it&#8217;s certainly a step in an exciting direction.
