{"id":23321,"date":"2015-06-15T14:54:32","date_gmt":"2015-06-15T21:54:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/?p=23321"},"modified":"2015-06-16T08:04:24","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T15:04:24","slug":"rupert-wyatt-to-direct-gambit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/rupert-wyatt-to-direct-gambit\/","title":{"rendered":"Channing Tatum&#8217;s Gambit Gets Director for Solo Film"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gambit-director.jpg\" rel=\"prettyphoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gambit-director-640x384.jpg\" alt=\"Gambit Director Rupert Wyatt\" width=\"640\" height=\"384\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-23326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gambit-director-640x384.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gambit-director.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gambit-director-150x90.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been over five months since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/2015\/01\/06\/fox-gambit-movie-channing-tatum\/\" target=\"_blank\">Channing Tatum<\/a> was officialy cast as Remy LeBeau a.k.a. <strong>Gambit<\/strong> and there was still no director attached to the project &#8211; until now.<\/p>\n<p><em>Entertainment Weekly<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ew.com\/article\/2015\/06\/15\/gambit-exclusive-rupert-wyatt\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">reports<\/a> that <strong>Rupert Wyatt<\/strong> is officially set to helm the upcoming solo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/hitlist.asp?theme=X-Men&#038;id=EN-407186506\" target=\"_blank\"><em>X-Men<\/em><\/a> film.<\/p>\n<p>Wyatt is best known for his reboot film, <em>Rise of the Planet of the Apes,<\/em> which received solid reviews in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>While Gambit was previously seen in <em>X-Men Origins: Wolverine,<\/em> this will be his first solo film.<\/p>\n<p><em>Empire<\/em> recently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.empireonline.com\/news\/story.asp?NID=44415\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">spoke to Tatum<\/a> about his role and he had this to say about the kinetically charged mutant:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I love Gambit. I grew up in the South; my father\u2019s from Louisiana. We\u2019d go to New Orleans and I heard all the dialects. It felt so different from the rest of America; it has its own ancient culture. So I identified with that. And he always felt the most real of the X-Men to me. He\u2019s kind of a tortured soul and he\u2019s not a good guy. But he\u2019s not a bad guy, either. He walks his own path. And of course he plays cards and drinks and is a martial-arts badass!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The first draft of the script was also recently finished by Josh Zetumer and Tatum hinted at some changes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;None of us were sure how he was going to deal with the X-Men world. But we\u2019re going to be changing some of the tropes of these movies. It\u2019s always about saving the world (laughs), but maybe we\u2019re going to shift things a little but. There\u2019s so many ways you can take [an origin story]. You could do it like Batman Begins, or a different take and go the Guardians Of The Galaxy route. All I can say is, I\u2019m super excited.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We&#8217;re excited too! Gambit&#8217;s a character with a long, rich history who has always been been a fan-favorite. To say this film is highly anticipated is an understatement but it&#8217;s too early to tell what it will shape up to be.<\/p>\n<p>Tatum&#8217;s a fun actor who deserves more credit than he receives and we think he&#8217;ll be great in the role.<\/p>\n<p><em>Gambit<\/em> is set to hit theaters on October 7, 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been over five months since Channing Tatum was officialy cast as Remy LeBeau a.k.a.
