There’s been a lot of talk about the lifespan of the superhero movie genre recently. It primarily started when director Steven Spielberg predicted the death of it<\/a> in an interview. Frankly, his comments weren’t in any way over the top and they actually make a lot of sense, but it does get other people chipping in.<\/p>\n People like Zack Snyder,<\/strong> director of the upcoming Batman<\/a> v Superman<\/a>: Dawn of Justice.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n In an interview with Yahoo! Movies<\/a>, Snyder responded to Spielberg’s comments:<\/p>\n “He might not be wrong. I think it puts more pressure on us, the filmmakers, to not just crank out superhero movies for the sake of it. To me, the one thing I love working in the DC universe is that Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman are American mythology. It\u2019s not about making a superhero, it\u2019s a mythological universe that we live in. That I hope stands the test of time. They stood the test of time. That\u2019s hopefully the sort of magic bullet. But who knows what audiences will want in the future. “<\/p><\/blockquote>\n It’s easy to see how there could be superhero fatigue in the next handful of years, but the primary way to avoid that is, as Snyder says, to not make movies just because. Filmmakers who care can do a lot more than those who don’t.<\/p>\n He also spoke about rumors surrounding the DC cinematic universe, including the big Robin one:<\/p>\n “There are so many, it\u2019s insanity. It\u2019s funny because every now and then someone will touch on something that\u2019s kind of true, but the next thing they say makes me realize that they took a wild guess. They\u2019ll say something and I\u2019ll say \u201cOh snap, they must have seen the script.\u201d And then they\u2019ll say, \u201cAnd this happens!\u201d And then I\u2019ll go, They have no idea what they\u2019re talking about. It\u2019s fun for everyone to speculate and take shots and think of things and try to sell it. There\u2019s an industry in selling your guess.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a rumor that my son is [playing] Robin. It\u2019s not true. Now there are all these images of him that people have made where he\u2019s dressed like Robin. It\u2019s fun to hear and see them.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Now, I never bought the rumor that Snyder’s son was Robin but we do know that Robin has a role in the new film<\/a>. But that’s probably going to be something that stays under wraps until the film is released.<\/p>\n Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,<\/em> directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Laurence Fishburne, is set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016.<\/p>\n What do you think of Zack Snyder’s comments and do you believe the superhero movie genre will fade soon?
