{"id":30239,"date":"2015-10-01T16:37:29","date_gmt":"2015-10-01T23:37:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/?p=30239"},"modified":"2019-03-06T16:42:52","modified_gmt":"2019-03-07T00:42:52","slug":"bbc-three-announces-new-doctor-who-spin-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/bbc-three-announces-new-doctor-who-spin-off\/","title":{"rendered":"There&#8217;s Going to Be a Doctor Who Spin-Off Series Airing Next Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Listen up, Whovians! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/blogs\/doctorwho\/entries\/953c5b1f-3cc8-4db9-8184-f1b6567260f1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC Three<\/a> announced a brand-new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/hitlist.asp?theme=Doctor+Who&amp;id=EN-407186506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Doctor Who<\/strong><\/em><\/a> spin-off series!<\/p>\n<p>The official Twitter accounted tweeted there would be good news coming this morning:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/whofalldifan\">@whofalldifan<\/a> Please don&#8217;t worry&#8230; It&#8217;s good news. Not bad news.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Doctor Who Official (@bbcdoctorwho) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bbcdoctorwho\/status\/649651083351093248\">October 1, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>And I definitely think this counts as good news!<\/p>\n<p>From YA author <strong>Patrick Ness,<\/strong> the series will be called <em><strong>Class<\/strong><\/em> and take place in contemporary London at Coal Hill School.<\/p>\n<p>Several incarnations of the Doctor have been associated with the school. His granddaughter, Susan, was a pupil there and the current companion, Clara (Jenna Coleman), teaches there.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no knowing what characters will be involved, but here&#8217;s the official description:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenalin of the best YA fiction (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you\u2019ve never seen them before.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Showrunner Steven Moffat, who will executive produce, praises Ness, saying that &#8220;no one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager&#8221; like Ness.<\/p>\n<p>As for the author, Ness is clearly excited about the show:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I\u2019m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There\u2019s so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can\u2019t wait for people to meet the heroes of \u2018Class,\u2019 to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The show is expected to premiere sometime in 2016.
