Chlo\u00eb Moretz<\/strong> is about to go under the sea in a live-action retelling of The Little Mermaid<\/a>!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

However, this isn’t part of Disney’s current trend of turning their animated films into live-action retellings. In fact, this isn’t a Disney film at all!<\/p>\n

This movie is in production at Working Title and Universal. What this means is that we might get a far darker version of Hans Christian Andersen’s story, which decidedly doesn’t have a happy ending, and certainly no happy songs or talking crabs.<\/p>\n

With titles like Kick-Ass, Let Me In,<\/em> and Carrie<\/em> under her belt, Moretz can definitely take on darker tones in a film.<\/p>\n

Moretz has been the front-runner for some time and it’s rumored her casting is part of what caused director Sofia Coppola to leave the project.<\/p>\n

Screenwriter Richard Curtis<\/strong> is in talks to pen the script. He’s a very clever writer and popular with critics and audiences alike, having written films like Love Actually<\/em> and Four Weddings and a Funeral<\/em> in the past.<\/p>\n
