{"id":32891,"date":"2015-11-17T15:23:48","date_gmt":"2015-11-17T22:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/news\/?p=32891"},"modified":"2019-03-06T15:22:14","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T23:22:14","slug":"universal-monsters-reboot-universe-details-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/news\/universal-monsters-reboot-universe-details-revealed\/","title":{"rendered":"Here Are the Monster Films Universal Plans to Reboot for Their Shared Universe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The upcoming shared reboot universe starring <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/hitlist.asp?theme=Universal+Monsters&amp;id=EN-407186506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Universal Monsters<\/strong><\/a> is getting under way. <em>Van Helsing<\/em> recently received a pair of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/news\/2015\/11\/12\/universal-horror-reboot-universe-van-helsing-writers\/\">writers<\/a> and now <a href=\"http:\/\/variety.com\/2015\/film\/news\/universal-monster-movies-mummy-dracula-frakenstein-1201642140\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Variety&#8217;s<\/em><\/a> reporting on the larger plan for the project.<\/p>\n<p>Just like <em>Star Wars,<\/em> Universal plans to release a new monster movie every year, including <em>The Mummy, Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolfman,<\/em> and the aforementioned <em>Van Helsing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The characters will interact with each other across movies,&#8221; explains Donna Langley, chair of Universal Pictures. &#8220;We\u2019re incubating it at the moment, and we\u2019re taking the time to get it right.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, last year&#8217;s <em>Dracula Untold<\/em> was meant to be the beginning of this shared universe but it remains to be seen whether or not that&#8217;s still the case or if they&#8217;re planning to &#8211; again &#8211; reboot Dracula.<\/p>\n<p>The two people at the helm of this world are <strong>Alex Kurtzman<\/strong> (<em>Star Trek, Fringe<\/em>) and <strong>Chris Morgan<\/strong> (<em>Fast &amp; Furious 6, Furious 7<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Kurtzman touches on the idea that these monster films will not be the ones we&#8217;re used to: &#8220;We&#8217;re creating a mythology, so we\u2019re looking at this canon and thinking, &#8216;What are the rules?&#8217; What can we break and what are the ones that are untouchable?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Morgan also goes on to explain how this universe will differ from all the superhero films Hollywood is churning out:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Heroes tend to be perfect, but most people in an audience aren\u2019t ever going to know what it\u2019s like to be the smartest, strongest or fastest person alive. But there\u2019s a darkness inside everybody. And everyone wants to be able to turn a curse into empowerment. The monsters have been in the shadows, and now it\u2019s time to bring them out into the light.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>The Mummy<\/em> is set to begin production early next year.<\/p>\n<p>Are you excited for this universe?
