{"id":33406,"date":"2015-11-27T16:57:29","date_gmt":"2015-11-27T23:57:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/?p=33406"},"modified":"2019-03-06T15:19:38","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T23:19:38","slug":"ridley-scott-shares-details-on-alien-prequels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/ridley-scott-shares-details-on-alien-prequels\/","title":{"rendered":"Ridley Scott Reveals Plan for 3 More Alien Prequels, Beginning with Alien: Covenant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last few months, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/hitlist.asp?theme=Alien+%2F+Aliens&amp;id=EN-407186506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Alien<\/strong><\/em><\/a> franchise has been injected with new life.<\/p>\n<p>After learning that director <strong>Ridley Scott<\/strong> is working on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/2015\/09\/23\/ridley-scott-planning-more-prometheus-films\/\">sequel<\/a> to <em>Prometheus,<\/em> 20th Century Fox has released an official title, release date, and title for the sequel:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS \u2014 and connects directly to Scott\u2019s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world \u2014 whose sole inhabitant is the \u201csynthetic\u201d David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s set to hit theaters on October 6, 2017 and pre-production is starting very soon in Sydney, Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The title is different from the one Scott himself shared in September, <em>Alien: Paradise Lost.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Covenant<\/em> will be followed by two more movies, Scott revealed at a press conference in Sydney (which differs slightly from what the press release indicates about a trilogy), and they will answer the question of who created the Alien and why.<\/p>\n<p>He continued that these sequels\/prequels were borne out of his own frustration that none of the sequels to his original film answered that question (take that, James Cameron).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;So I\u2019m now going to the next one, which is the next evolution directly connected with the first one, which was this Shaw, when [s]he replaced Michael Fassbender in two pieces and we\u2019ll kind of pick it up there and it will evolve. When that\u2019s finished there\u2019ll be another one and then another one which will gradually drive into the back entrance of the film in 1979\u2026 So in other words, why was this space jockey there and why did he have an Alien inside him? And those questions will be answered.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Michael Fassbender (David)<\/strong> is so far the only main actor confirmed for <em>Covenant<\/em> (Noomi Rapace&#8217;s Shaw will only appear briefly).<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also unclear if Neil Blomkamp&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/2015\/02\/19\/neil-blomkamp-officially-directing-alien-sequel\/\"><em>Alien<\/em> sequel<\/a> has been put on indefinite hold, but that seems to be the consensus.<\/p>\n<p>Are you excited for three more <em>Alien<\/em> prequels?
