{"id":36514,"date":"2016-01-13T11:59:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-13T18:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/?p=36514"},"modified":"2019-03-06T14:58:56","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T22:58:56","slug":"colin-trevorrow-star-wars-episode-ix-interview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/colin-trevorrow-star-wars-episode-ix-interview\/","title":{"rendered":"Colin Trevorrow Discusses Star Wars: Episode IX, Long Before Episode VIII Is Even Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re more than three years away from <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/hitlist.asp?theme=Star+Wars&amp;utm_source=ee-blog&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Star Wars: Episode IX<\/a>,<\/strong><\/em> and we have no idea what <em>Episode VIII<\/em> will entail, but that hasn&#8217;t stopped director Colin Trevorrow from discussing certain plot and character elements from <em>IX.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.etonline.com\/news\/179765_colin_trevorrow_promises_satisfying_answer_to_star_wars_theories\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Entertainment Tonight<\/a>,<\/em> Trevorrow revealed, least surprisingly of all, that Rey&#8217;s story will continue to be the most important, from her parentage and beyond:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We\u2019re going to make sure that that answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying [\u2026] Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context of The Force Awakens, but in the entire galaxy. She deserves it. We\u2019ll make sure that that answer is something that feels like it was something that happened a long time ago, far away, and we\u2019re just telling you what happened.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I would certainly hope so, given Rey is our new protagonist and hero of the franchise!<\/p>\n<p>He also mentions that he&#8217;s read all the fan theories about Rey (that she&#8217;s Luke&#8217;s daughter, Obi-Wan&#8217;s granddaughter, etc.), but, of course, can&#8217;t reveal anything now. He&#8217;s merely in the &#8220;notes scribbling&#8221; stage now and talking about the trajectory of the new trilogy with JJ Abrams and <em>Episode VIII<\/em> director Rian Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Trevorrow, who recently had massive success with <em>Jurassic World,<\/em> also revealed to <em>ET<\/em> that he wants to keep Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, as Luke and Leia, involved:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Though he says he has yet to speak with original Star Wars stars Hamill and Carrie Fisher, Trevorrow wants their presence to be even greater in his film, revealing he can\u2019t wait \u201cto find new places that we can take those characters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are icons, but they\u2019re also people that have suffered tremendous loss and challenge over the course of all these films,\u201d he told us.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It sounds like that&#8217;s confirmation the two characters will survive <em>Episode VIII,<\/em> but when it comes to <em>Star Wars,<\/em> you never know. After all, Force ghosts are a thing.<\/p>\n<p>Trevorrow is the director I&#8217;m most apprehensive of, primarily because I thought <em>Jurassic World<\/em> was a massive disappointment (critically, not financially). However, as <em>The Mary Sue<\/em> aptly reminds me, directors can grow and change &#8211; just look at Abrams from <em>Star Trek Into Darkness<\/em> to <em>The Force Awakens.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Star Wars: Episode IX<\/em> is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think of Trevorrow&#8217;s comments?
