Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Hannibal.<\/em><\/p>\n

What do these shows have in common? They’re brilliant, creative, high-concept, and all created by the same man: Bryan Fuller.<\/p>\n

He’s one of the greatest small-screen visionaries of our time, who’s had the unfortunate luck of attracting low ratings for his critically acclaimed shows, and someone whose work I consistently look forward to and admire.<\/p>\n

It’s why I trust him, perhaps more than anyone else, to helm the Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods,<\/em> which is in pre-production right now.<\/p>\n

But as if him bringing that book to life wasn’t exciting enough, he was just tapped to lead the new Star Trek<\/strong><\/em><\/a> series that was first announced in November<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fuller isn’t a stranger to the Star Trek<\/em> universe – his first writing credits were on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine<\/em> and Star: Trek Voyager,<\/em> where he ultimately earned 22 writing credits.<\/p>\n

He’s long championed the return of the series and told Entertainment Weekly<\/em> that it’s “a dream come true to be crafting a brand-new iteration of Star Trek<\/em> with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no Star Trek<\/em> series has gone before.”<\/p>\n

While there are no story details available yet, Fuller has mentioned in the past that he’d like to bring back the brighter colors of The Original Series,<\/em> “because somehow, it got cold over the years.”<\/p>\n

He also tossed out the idea of setting the show on the U.S.S. Reliant, rather than the Enterprise.<\/p>\n

That right there is exactly why I admire Fuller so much, and am already on board with him leading this series. He’s a bold figure, with grand and inclusive and diverse ideas, and perfect to run a show like Star Trek.<\/em> He knows how to go dark (Hannibal<\/em>), but he’s just as good with lighter shows (Pushing Daisies<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Star Trek<\/em> is all about the future, exploring new frontiers, and that’s something that Fuller’s done with all of his shows in the past. He consistently pushes boundaries and challenges ideas.<\/p>\n

I’m already in a tizzy imagining what his take on this series will entail and who the cast will be (he’s already thrown out names like Angela Basset and Rosario Dawson).<\/p>\n

The new series will premiere on CBS in 2017 before moving completely to CBS’ streaming services, All Access.<\/p>\n
