{"id":41766,"date":"2016-04-14T10:17:17","date_gmt":"2016-04-14T17:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/?p=41766"},"modified":"2019-03-06T11:45:36","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T19:45:36","slug":"the-grinch-benedict-cumberbatch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com/news\/the-grinch-benedict-cumberbatch\/","title":{"rendered":"Benedict Cumberbatch to Voice the Grinch in New Animated Film"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking of Hollywood and new ideas&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Illumination Entertainment announced at CinemaCon that Benedict Cumberbatch would be taking on the classic role of Dr. Seuss&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/hitlist.asp?searchfield=grinch&amp;utm_source=ee-blog&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Grinch<\/strong><\/a> in their new animated film.<\/p>\n<p>Producer Chris Meledandri enthused the British thespian has a voice that conveys &#8220;comedic wickedness while embodying vulnerability.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I certainly can&#8217;t fault him there, as Cumberbatch&#8217;s voice <em>is<\/em> quite distinctive, but undoubtedly there&#8217;s going to be the question of whether or not this movie is necessary at all.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m of the mindset that, while of course we can show children the classics, there&#8217;s nothing wrong with reinventing something for new generations. However, the 1966 animated TV special is beloved by many, and Boris Karloff is a big name to live up to.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Grinch<\/em> will be adapted by writer Michael LeSieur and is set for release on November 10, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think of Benedict Cumberbatch as the classic holiday grump?
