{"id":41918,"date":"2016-04-15T15:11:07","date_gmt":"2016-04-15T22:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/news\/?p=41918"},"modified":"2019-03-06T11:43:50","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T19:43:50","slug":"pokemon-live-action-film-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/news\/pokemon-live-action-film-auction\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Movie Studios in Bidding War to Make Live-Action Pok\u00e9mon Film"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not so much a question of whether or not we&#8217;ll be getting a live-action <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/hitlist.asp?theme=Pokemon&amp;utm_source=ee-blog&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Pok\u00e9mon<\/strong><\/em><\/a> film, but rather which studio will make it.<\/p>\n<p>Hollywood has been courted for some time by The Pok\u00e9mon Company to make a film, and now there&#8217;s an auction going on between three major studios to get the rights: Warner Bros., Sony, and Legendary.<\/p>\n<p>While Warner Bros. and Sony were the initial frontrunners, Legendary Pictures has recently started to pull ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this entire situation is that, since January, Legendary is a Chinese-owned studio, and the idea of them taking on a beloved Japanese franchise could be a compelling development.<\/p>\n<p>To Legendary&#8217;s credit, they&#8217;ve already brought Godzilla to the big screen in partnership with WB with the 2014 film named after the titular monster. This was also done alongside Japan\u2019s Toho Co. Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of who gets it, there&#8217;s a good chance we&#8217;ll be seeing our first live-action (presumably combined with CGI) <em>Pok\u00e9mon<\/em> film on the big screen.<\/p>\n<p>So: do you want this film?
