The film version of the classic board game<\/a>, Clue,<\/em> may have been initially panned by critics and audiences alike – hard to believe, I know – but in the thirty years since its release it’s become a beloved cult classic.<\/p>\n

So, naturally, FOX has decided it’s high time for a remake.<\/p>\n

The belated success of the original was due to a pun-laden, infinitely quotable script and a crazy talented cast that included Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Martin Mull, and Christopher Lloyd. (Kahn and Curry’s shoes in particular are going to be hard ones to fill.)<\/p>\n

There’s no news yet who the studios are eyeing in terms of casting. But if executive producer Ryan Jones and producer Josh Feldman (of Hasbro Studios) want this new film to be a box office bonanza straight out of the gate, they’re going to have to get some serious(ly funny) talent both in front of and behind the camera.<\/p>\n

Details are scanty thus far, but there’s a rumor that this production may be more of a globe-trotting adventure rather than a parlor room mystery. It’ll be interesting to see how they update and expand the original scenario if that’s the case.<\/p>\n

A Clue <\/em>remake is only one of several board game-based films Hasbro Studios currently has in the pipeline — we’ll be getting a Candy Land<\/em>, Risk<\/em>, and Monopoly <\/em>movie in the next few years, too. While the core story of Clue<\/em> made for an easy transition to the big screen, it remains to be seen how successful the other games will be as adaptations.<\/p>\n
