{"id":50028,"date":"2016-10-21T23:09:24","date_gmt":"2016-10-22T06:09:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/news\/?p=50028"},"modified":"2020-03-09T10:28:58","modified_gmt":"2020-03-09T17:28:58","slug":"donald-glover-cast-as-lando-calrissian-in-standalone-han-solo-film","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/news\/donald-glover-cast-as-lando-calrissian-in-standalone-han-solo-film\/","title":{"rendered":"Donald Glover Cast as Lando Calrissian in Standalone Han Solo Film"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Disney and Lucasfilm announced today that rapper\/actor Donald Glover has been cast as a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming <em>Star Wars<\/em> spinoff Han Solo film.<\/p>\n<p>Glover, who is known for his role as Troy on Community and his rapping alter ego\u00a0Childish Gambino, will take on the role made famous by Billy Dee Williams.<\/p>\n<p>It was long rumored that both Chewbacca and Lando would appear alongside a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertainmentearth.com\/news\/2016\/05\/06\/alden-ehrenreich-cast-as-han-solo\/\">young Han Solo<\/a> (Alden Ehrenreich) and after months of speculation and casting rumors we finally get confirmation that, at least, Lando will appear in the film.<\/p>\n<p>StarWars.com has stated\u00a0that the &#8220;new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy\u2019s underworld &#8211; years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in\u00a0<em>The Empire Strikes Back<\/em>\u00a0and his rise to Rebel hero\u00a0in\u00a0<em>Return of the Jedi<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The still-untitled Han Solo\u00a0movie\u00a0is set for release in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><em>What do you think of this casting?
