It\u2019s hard to believe, but twenty years ago today the pilot episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/em> premiered on the now defunct WB network. Who would have thought that a mid-season replacement series with a goofy sounding name would turn into the cult phenomenon that it is today?<\/p>\n

Like many, myself included, I discovered this little-show-that-could during my formative teenage years. And, like many, I am so, so glad I did. This show helped shape me in more ways than one.<\/p>\n

It gave me a plethora of strong female characters to look up to (as well as different variations of what strong can represent).<\/p>\n

It was the catalyst for my current full-blown love of the horror genre.<\/p>\n

It introduced me to the possibilities of what well written media can accomplish, both from a storytelling standpoint, as well as critical analysis (I owned far too many episode guides and essays at one point. Okay, fine, I still do).<\/p>\n

It was also one of my first peaks behind the veil into internet fandom. Thank you, fanfiction.net, for your service.<\/p>\n

Truly, this show has given us all so much. We owe our thanks to the tireless cast and crew for providing us with seven glorious seasons and a legacy that still lives on today.<\/p>\n
