From the \u201cBad Dad\u201d confession files\u2026 I\u2019m a child of the 80s who hasn\u2019t yet been able to convince his children to watch E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Why not? Because I made the mistake of telling them E.T.<\/em> was the first movie that made me cry.<\/p>\n

I had just turned 10 in the summer of 1982. The whole fifth grade was buzzing: \u201cThis movie\u2019s great, but it\u2019s gonna make you cry!\u201d And, sure enough, I sniffled and snuffled all through the last reel.<\/p>\n

When I shared these memories with my son – himself a freshly minted 10-year-old at the time – he decided he wasn\u2019t about to get caught crying <\/em>for some movie<\/em>. \u201cUh, no thanks, Dad,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ll pass.\u201d<\/p>\n

And because he <\/em>wasn\u2019t interested, his little sister decided she <\/em>wasn\u2019t, either.<\/p>\n

Now, she \u201cloved, loved, loved\u201d (her words) the E.T.<\/em> ride at Universal Studios in Orlando. She even posed for a picture on the \u201cflying bike\u201d in the gift shop, with E.T. right there in the handlebar basket. But watch the actual movie? \u201cNo way!\u201d she says – especially now that she\u2019s counting down to her <\/em>tenth birthday.<\/p>\n

If only I\u2019d had NECA\u2019s new, near-life size E.T. stunt puppet replica<\/a> when my kids were younger!<\/p>\n

Had this little guy – almost three feet of carefully sculpted and painstakingly painted latex and foam rubber, from his bulbous blue eyes to the healing tip of his right forefinger – been a familiar presence in our home, my kids could have grown up playing with him for years, all the while wondering – and finally asking dear old Dad – \u201cWho is <\/em>E.T., anyway?\u201d Then I could have broken out my VHS tape (from Christmas morning, 1991 – the Sears promotional release, remember?) fired up the old VCR, popped some microwave popcorn, and said, \u201cI\u2019m glad you asked\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Alas. Thirty-five years later after I saw it with my school friends, I am watching E.T.<\/em> alone.<\/p>\n

So learn from my mistake! Make sure you pre-order this (let\u2019s face it) adorable <\/em>E.T. puppet replica<\/a>. Let the heartlights of the kids in your life\u2014sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, next-door neighbors\u2014glow with love for the gentlest visitor from the stars ever!<\/p>\n

And act while you can! This product is limited to a single production run. Just like in the film, time is of the essence.<\/p>\n

And whatever you do, don\u2019t tell your kids that the movie made you cry. Even though it did.<\/p>\n
