The Little Mermaid live-action remake just splashed into theaters this past weekend, and boy, are we excited! Take a trip down Little Mermaid lane below, and learn a bit more about the cast that helped this story come to life.<\/p>\n

The little mermaid herself! Halle Bailey stars as Ariel, the rambunctious mermaid who\u2019s looking for freedom above the sea. This is Bailey\u2019s first lead role, having been in The Lion King<\/em> (2019) as the voice of young Nala, as well as a few smaller roles before then. Bailey will soon be seen on the big screen again, with a prominent role in The Color Purple<\/em>, a film rendition of the stage musical of the same name. The Color Purple<\/em> was produced by Stephen Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey.<\/p>\n

Jonah Hauer-King graces our screens as Prince Eric! The lovely prince we all had a crush on, Hauer-King brings so much charisma to a role that had already stolen our hearts. Before this, you could find Hauer-King in the movie A Dog\u2019s Way Home<\/em> (2019). He is also currently on the UK television show The Flatshare<\/em>, streaming on Paramount+.<\/p>\n

Melissa McCarthy<\/a> as Ursula<\/a><\/h3>\n

Famed comedic actress Melissa McCarthy takes on the role of Ursula, the evil squid-like woman who casts a spell for Ariel that may have some unforeseen consequences. While still the villain, Ursula is probably the most memorable character (other than our little mermaid) from the original animated film. With her eccentric looks and fantastic rendition of Pour Unfortunate Souls, Ursula would not dare be forgotten. Hoping for more Melissa McCarthy after seeing her here? Check out her previous comedic films like Bridesmaids <\/em>or The Heat.<\/em><\/p>\n

Javier Bardem<\/a> as King Triton<\/h3>\n

Best known for No Country for Old Men, Skyfall, <\/em>and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales<\/em>, the Oscar-winning actor will grace the big screen once again as Ariel\u2019s father, the stern yet caring King Triton. We\u2019re not sure if Triton is depicted exactly like he is in the animated version, but we\u2019re excited to see Bardem no matter what!<\/p>\n

Noma Dumezweni as The Queen<\/h3>\n

The Queen Selina\u00a0 is played here by the lovely actress Noma Dumezweni. Previously, you could find Dumezweni in the hit Netflix series The Watcher<\/em> as Theodora Birch, or on the Max Original TV series Made for Love<\/em>. Don\u2019t miss her in The Little Mermaid<\/em> though, as her character is a great addition that you won\u2019t want to miss!<\/p>\n

Art Malik as Sir Grimsby<\/h3>\n

Don\u2019t forget about Sir Grimsby, Prince Eric\u2019s caretaker and confidant. The fanciful man is portrayed here by Art Malik, a British actor who earned most his fame by being a part of many popular movies and television shows of the 80s and 90s, specifically True Lies, The Jewel in the Crown,<\/em> and The Living Daylights<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Daveed Diggs as Sebastian (voice)<\/h3>\n

The fan-favorite crab Sebastian is voiced by none other than the incredibly talented Daveed Diggs! Diggs became incredibly popular after originating the roles of Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette in the hit broadway musical Hamilton<\/em>, for which he won a 2016 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical. Afterwards, you could find Diggs in the television show Black-ish<\/em>, as well as the films Wonder <\/em>and Velvet Buzzsaw<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Jacob Tremblay as Flounder (voice)<\/h3>\n

The cute and adorable fish Flounder won\u2019t be missing from this remake! Jacob Tremblay brings life to the fish on the big screen. You might remember him from his performance in the Oscar-nominated film Room<\/em>, or as one of the feisty children in Good Boys<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Awkwafina as Scuttle (voice)<\/h3>\n

The rapper\/actress can be heard in The Little Mermaid as the voice of everyone\u2019s favorite seagull turned northern gannet \u2013 Scuttle! Awkwafina can be seen in a few other major Hollywood movies from the past few years, including Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Raya and the Last Dragon, The Bad Guys,<\/em> and Ocean\u2019s 8<\/em>.<\/p>\n

You can find Miss Alexander as the star of the Disney Channel TV series Penny on M.A.R.S.<\/em> or in the UK television series Get Even,<\/em> now streaming on Netflix!<\/p>\n

Martina Laird as Lashana<\/h3>\n

Martina Laird plays Queen Selina’s chief servant and advisor, here named Lashana. Who knows what Lashana will be, the only way to find out seems to be watching the movie! Laird can be found in the ITV television series Unforgotten<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Emily Coates as Rosa<\/h3>\n

Emily Coates, previously seen in the television series Cursed, appears in this movie as a young girl who works within Eric\u2019s castle. While this is a new character who did not appear in the original animated film, we look forward to seeing Coates in the role!<\/p>\n

Christopher Fairbank as Hawkins and John Dagleish as Mulligan<\/h3>\n

Both new characters for the live-action movie, Christopher Fairbank and John Dagleish both are casted as members of Prince Eric\u2019s crew.
