Marvel Studios&#8217; newest hit, directed by James Gunn, smashed August box office records and earned the film an A+ in the hearts of many. The Thursday night opening previews amounted to $11.2 million, exceeding any other movie this year &#8211; including Marvel&#8217;s <em>Captain America: The Winter Soldier<\/em>, which grossed $10.2 mil on preview night. Additionally, <em>Guardians<\/em> reached $94 mil after opening weekend, barely missing <em>Captain America: The Winter Soldier<\/em>&#8216;s record of highest grossing movie of the year at $95 mil. While (<em>barely<\/em>) not the highest grossing movie of the year, the fantasy adventure still earns the title of having the best August opening to date.<\/p>\n<p><em>Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em> features the talents of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. The film earned 92% positive ratings among critics, with a 96% positive rating among the notoriously picky fans at Rotten Tomatoes.
