Shrek is an animated feature based upon William Steig's 1990 fairytale picture book entitled Shrek!. Directed by New Zealander Andrew Adamson and animated by DreamWorks Animation SKG in May 2001, it was the first film to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, a category introduced in 2001. Shrek was followed by 2 additional feature films: Shrek 2 (2004) and Shrek the Third (2007). Shrek Forever After is the final film in the series, released in 2010.
