Who, Exactly, I Batman?

The brainchild of Bob Kane and Bill Finger, Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (1939), where he was called the "Bat-Man." He's also known as the "Dark Knight," the "Caped Crusader," and the "World's Greatest Detective." His alter ego Bruce Wayne, the billionaire businessman who was tragically orphaned when his parents Thomas and Martha were gunned down right in front of their son’s eyes by a petty thief in Crime Alley, is better known to the law-abiding citizens in Gotham while Batman strikes fear into the heart of Gotham’s criminal underbelly. The character’s popularity only grew over the years, resulting in a wide array of movies, TV shows, video games, and more based off his adventures and those of the other Gothamites like The Joker, the various Robins, Jim Gordan, the Birds of Prey, and more.
