The Big Bang Theory is an American sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, who serve as executive producers on the series that premiered on CBS on September 24, 2007. The show is about two fictional Caltech geniuses, an experimental physicist and a theoretical physicist, who live across the hall from an attractive blonde waitress and aspiring actress. Leonard's and Sheldon's geekiness and intellect are contrasted for comic effect with Penny's social skills and common sense. An aerospace engineer and a particle astrophysicist are their equally geeky and socially awkward co-workers and friends.
