Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.) is a retired American boxer and former 3-time World Heavyweight Champion. As an amateur, Ali won a gold medal at the Olympics in the light-heavyweight division. As a professional, he became the only man to win the linear Heavyweight Championship 3 times. Ali made a name for himself with his amazing handspeed, swift feet, taunting tactics, sharp out-fighting style, great courage, and ability to take a punch. In 1999, he was crowned "Sportsman of the Century" by Sports Illustrated and the BBC.
