Frequently Asked Questions
How does the light and sound work for my lightsaber?
Your lightsaber features a durable polycarbonate blade which houses an EL (or electro-luminescent) core. The EL core contains a sheet with phosphorescent ink. When a current is applied, the EL core will glow. Your lightsaber has a circuit that will convert the DC (battery) power to a specific AC voltage and frequency. The AC voltage and frequency are optimized for the color and efficiency. Your lightsaber also incorporates two motion sensors which sense both the movement of the blade as well as contact. An on-board multi-channel chip is programmed with digital sound-effects originally created for the movie by Skywalker Sound.Your lightsaber replicates the following sound effects: • Power-up • Idle hum • Movement (with pitch change) • Clash (cycles through four different clash sound effects) • Power down
How long will the electronics (light and sound) last in my lightsaber? Will there be replacement parts?
Your lightsaber is warranted against defects for 45 days from date of purchase (see Warranty for more information). However, if used and taken care of properly, your lightsaber could provide more than 1,000 hours of electronic use. As with many electronic products, lifespan is not indefinite and replacement parts are not available. At the end of its electronic life, the lightsaber becomes an attractive collectible for display.
Can I use my lightsaber for dueling?
Although the blade is very durable, it should never be used for dueling. This lightsaber is a collectible and not a toy and is not intended nor covered by warranty for striking against hard objects. Please see “Important Safety Instructions” and the Warranty for more information.
When I turn on my lightsaber, why does it take a few seconds before the movement and clash sounds take effect?
Your lightsaber operates on a microprocessor. All of the functions of your lightsaber are run by a program. Therefore, every time you turn your lightsaber off, the processor is reset, and will require about 8 seconds for the program to be loaded to the processor when turned on again. The actual time to load the program is dependent on the strength of your batteries.
What should I do if the sound goes off even though the “EL” sheet is still illuminated?
As you may have noticed, the battery compartment holds the batteries very tightly. However, if a battery gets dislodged during use, you will have to reset your lightsaber by simply removing and then re-inserting the batteries.
Is there anything wrong if I sometimes don’t hear the clash or movement sound effect when I move the lightsaber?
No. While we have optimized our motion sensors, some series of movements will occasionally be beyond the capabilities of the sensors. How long will the lightsaber last on a new set of batteries? The life of the batteries is dependent upon many different conditions, environmental and physical. Typically, on a set of fresh new alkaline batteries, your lightsaber should last approximately 4–5 hours of continuous use. Note that the more times you turn your lightsaber on and off, the shorter the battery life, since every time you turn on your lightsaber, there is a surge of power from the batteries.
How do I change the batteries?
Please see Important Safety Instructions.
Why is the fit so tight to replace / install batteries? We have designed the battery compartment to hold the batteries very tightly to reduce the chance of becoming dislodged during use.
