Thor is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, the character first appears in Journey into Mystery #83 (August 1962) and is based on the god of the same name from Norse mythology. Thor's father, Odin, decides his son needs to be taught humility, and consequently places Thor (without memories of godhood) into the body and memories of an existing partially disabled human medical student, Donald Blake. The mortal experience shapes Thor into an honorable and courteous individual who's loyal to all comrades.
The 2011 Thor feature film was directed by Kenneth Branagh, with Chris Hemsworth in the title role.
