The action figure in this box proudly represents a WWII U.S. Army Bazooka gunner in the 1st Infantry division.
The 1st Infantry is the oldest continuously serving division in the U.S. Army. With good humor and pride the men of the 1st refer to themselves as the Big Red One!
In WWII The Big Red One stood toe to toe with the Afrika Korp in the desert, marched over the rocky terrain of Sicily, cooled their toes in the surf of Omaha beach, froze their seats at the Bulge and at long last crossed the Rhine.
At about 20 inches long and about 2 and one half inches in diameter the bazooka, a hand-launched rocket, carried an explosive charge strong enough to penetrate 5 inches of armor. The bazooka’s main purpose was to give the infantryman some of the benefits of light artillery against enemy tanks and fortified positions.
