The Broncos originated in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League and joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL Merger. Decades of disappointment in the Bronco franchise ended in 1997, when John Elway led them to their first Super Bowl against the heavily favored Green Bay Packers. The Broncos reign did not end there, as they won a consecutive Super Bowl title the following year.
