There's Nothing Like Turning Red to Grab People's Attention
Growing up is a beast, and there's nothing like turning red to grab people's attention. Just ask Mei Lee! In the 2022 animated fantasy-comedy film Turning Red from Disney-Pixar, Meilin "Mei" Lee is a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between remaining her mother's dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. And as if changes to her interests, relationships, and body weren't enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is just about always), she "poofs" into a giant red panda! Of course, this can be quite inconvenient and leads to many interesting and hilarious complications. Directed by Domee Shi, Turning Red is the first Pixar film solely directed by a woman and the second (after 2009's Up) to feature an Asian lead character. It's fun family entertainment for all, and just like the Turning Red Pop! Vinyl figures, backpacks, wallets, and other delightful merchandise themed to Mei and the movie, it deserves your full attention.
