Wacky Races

Wacky Races is an animated television series from Hanna-Barbera about a group of 11 cars racing against each other in various road rallies, with each driver hoping to win the title of the "World's Wackiest Racer." The cartoon is unusual in the large number of regular characters, 24 in total, and in that the stars are the villains, as opposed to the heroes. Wacky Races was inspired by the 1965 film The Great Race, and the main characters in the cartoon are based on those in the movie. The series ran on CBS from September 14, 1968 to September 5, 1970. 17 episodes were produced, each featuring 2 different races, for a total of 34 races in all.
